...Human wetware is fragile, buggy, and generally not strong. It did NOT evolve in an environment where environmental falsehoods were a thing. Social media, like computer games, function to—and thus exist to, if we take the sensible systems theory "the purpose is what it does" view—reprogram your behavioural norms. The games, mostly due to context disjunctions (no one makes games that are just like going to work and applying inclever readings of The Prince to get ahead...), are pretty harmless. The social media is not even vaguely harmless, because it's programming your norms for interacting with other persons...
